PSB Aptitude for Practical Nursing Examination (PSB-APNE)

Designed for the nursing field, the PSB Aptitude for Practical Nursing Examination (PSB-APNE) aids in selecting nurses that have the highest chance at success in the program.  Due to the rapid increase in applicants, the PSB-APNE is always in demand.

The revised edition of this instrument was issued in 1991.

Participants are asked to respond to 370 items in various ways.  For the Academic Aptitude subscale, one must choose different word out of four others and answer arithmetic and geometric items.  For the other subscales, one just agrees or disagrees with a statement pertaining to that subscale. Approximately 135 minutes is required for completion.

Reliability and Validity

For reliability, standard error of measurement is supported for each subscale by the PSP-APNE test manual.  Over 10 to 30 day time periods, test-rest coefficients were calculated with 0.89 (Vocational Adjustment Index) to 0.98 (Spelling Test).  Split-half coefficients were also good being reported at 0.91 (Vocational Adjustment Index) to 0.98 (Academic Aptitude).  While the author assures content validity and construct validity, there is no such information supporting the statement.  Three studies were, however, to support concurrent validity by correlating the PSB-APNE with three other instruments – School and College Ability test, Weschler Adult Intelligence Scale, and the ESTA 8A Personal Adjustment Index.
