Kruskal Wallis

Statistics Solutions provides a data analysis plan template for the Kruskal Wallis analysis.  You can use this template to develop the data analysis section of your dissertation or research proposal.

The template includes research questions stated in statistical language, analysis justification and assumptions of the analysis.  Simply edit the blue text to reflect your research information and you will have the data analysis plan for your dissertation or research proposal.

Data Analysis Plan: Kruskal Wallis

Copy and paste the following into a word document to use as your data analysis plan template.

Research Question:

Is there a statistically significant difference on dependent variable by independent variable?

Ho: There is not a statistically significant difference on dependent variable by independent variable.

Ha: There is a statistically significant difference on dependent variable by independent variable.

Data Analysis

To examine the research question, Kruskal Wallis test will be conducted to determine if there a significant difference between dependent variable and independent variable.  The Kruskal Wallis test is an appropriate statistical analysis when the purpose of research is to assess if a difference exist on one ordinal/continuous dependent variable by an independent variable with two or more discrete groups.  The dependent variable in this analysis is dependent variable, and the discrete groups of independent variable (insert categories of groups).

The Kruskal Wallis is the non-parametric alternative to the ANOVA.  Normality and homogeneity of variance are not assumed when conducting the Kruskal Wallis test.  The Kruskal Wallis test can be done when the data is ordinal-level or when it violates the assumptions of the ANOVA.  Scores simply must be independent of each other, and must be in one of the groups of the independent variable.
